Coffee & Tea Collective is a cafe in San Diego, California that sources different coffee roasts around the world to create experiences that bring communities together.
For this special release, they partnered with Kalsada Coffee, a Philippine roastery that champions local specialty coffee and advocates for the livelihood of Filipino coffee farmers. These beans were harvested and milled by Manobo Tribe farmers in the province of Bukidnon.
Christian and I explored topographic references that inspired me to represent a section of Mt. Kalatungan, the highest peak looking over Sitio San Roque in Pangantucan, Bukidnon. I used elegant, organic lines in a subtle yet impactful way to represent Philippine specialty coffee in an honest yet dignifying manner. The gold foil bleeds into the narrative across panels, allowing the box to unfold like a storyboard.

To represent the tangy and nutty notes of the coffee, blue and red specks are gently dusted on a Jianzhan-inspired washed surface. Strokes of gold disrupt the viewing experience, creating lines that form detailed graphic interpretations of the mountain.
